Position: Software Engineer Level I

Who We Are:

Automated Controversy Detection is a small machine-learning research and development startup building a platform to quantify and analyze discourse. We use natural language processing and machine learning to capture socially expressed concepts like controversy, standing, and bias to improve our understanding of populations within digital culture and communication. We then deliver insights based on that data to our partners and customers.

Why We Do It:

We lead increasingly digital lives and our perspective on culture is increasingly informed by discourse about a topic rather than study of the topic itself. The machinery of the modern internet is by and large designed with a goal of personalized data and an understanding of what you think, our research interest is in discovering why you think that way.

In this role you will:

Collaborate closely with a team of creative, elastic thinkers to integrate our cutting-edge discourse algorithms into web applications. You will have the opportunity to feed your interest in data science and machine learning, and you will demonstrate a natural curiosity about potential applications of our platform. You will find yourself in an environment where we encourage our team to ask “why?”

We’re looking for an adroit thinker, a team player possessing strong analytical as well as technical skills, and the ability to communicate the logic behind technical decisions to non-tech stakeholders. You must be comfortable working in an agile environment, adapting quickly to emerging priorities, and collaborating very closely with our small team.

  • Work with the tech team to establish a development and release cycle.

  • Establish integration and testing tools and procedures.

  • Write well-designed, testable code.

  • Comply with project plans and industry standards.

  • Collaboratively define, scope, prioritize, and estimate work.

  • 1-2 years of software development experience in application or services development.

  • JavaScript and Python are required.

  • Experience in React is valued.

  • Data science and machine learning experience is highly valued, but a strong interest is required.

  • Excellent skills in debugging and problem solving.

Benefits and Perks

  • Close collaboration with an engaged and open executive team who will be committed to your career advancement.

  • Paid Holidays and an Unlimited PTO plan

  • Health, Vision, and Dental Insurance

  • 401(k) with company match
